Privacy Policy

How Kato collects, uses, and protects your information.

Last updated: August 27, 2026

01Summary (Privacy by Design)

Local-First & Offline Storage: All your assignments, tasks, quizzes, notes, marks, and attachments are stored locally on your device. We do not operate remote user databases or cloud servers to store your personal data.

No Account Required: You do not need to create an account, log in, or provide personal identifiers (such as your name, email address, or phone number) to use the App.

Zero Tracking & Telemetry: We do not collect analytics, telemetry, or behavioral tracking data. We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal information.

User-Controlled Data Sharing: Data leaves your device only when you explicitly choose to export or share it via the “Share to AI” feature or system share sheet.

02Information we handle

Data You Provide Directly (Stored Locally). When you create and manage tasks within Kato, the following data is saved directly on your device:

  • Task Information: Titles, descriptions, notes, task categories (Assignments, Quizzes, Projects), due dates, and priority indicators.
  • Academic Marks / Weightage: Maximum marks and score configurations.
  • Attachments: Documents, PDFs, and images that you select from your device to associate with a task (stored locally in the app’s sandboxed document storage).
  • App Preferences: Notification preferences, ring tone alerts, and UI settings.

03Automatically collected data

Crash & Diagnostic Data: The core app does not collect personal diagnostic data. Any crash logs generated at the operating system level (e.g., via Google Play Services or Apple App Store) are governed by your platform provider’s privacy settings and aggregated anonymously.

No Cookies or Identifiers: Kato does not use cookies, device fingerprinting, advertising identifiers (IDFA / AAID), or tracking SDKs.

04How your data is used

Because your data is stored locally, it is used solely on your device to:

  • Display, organize, and calculate deadlines, countdowns, and progress for your academic tasks.
  • Schedule and deliver local push notifications and alarms for upcoming due dates.
  • Allow you to view, manage, and edit attached study files and notes.
  • Prepare formatted study prompts when you initiate the “Share to AI” feature.

05Device permissions

To deliver core features, Kato may request the following device permissions:

  • Notifications (Android / iOS) — To send you deadline alerts and reminder notifications.
  • Exact Alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM, USE_EXACT_ALARM) (Android) — To trigger precise, time-sensitive reminders at the exact minute your assignment or quiz is due.
  • Storage / File Picker Access (Android / iOS / Desktop) — To enable you to select and attach documents, images, and PDFs to your tasks.
  • Vibration / Audio (Android / iOS) — To play audible alerts or vibrate your device when task alarms trigger.
  • You can grant or revoke these permissions at any time through your device’s system settings. Disabling notification permissions will prevent the App from sending due date reminders.

06Third-party services and data sharing

Share to AI and System Share Feature: Kato includes a “Share to AI” helper feature. When you tap this button, the App formats your task title, description, due date, marks, and optional attachment files into a structured study prompt. The formatted prompt is copied to your device’s clipboard and passed to your operating system’s native share dialog. You choose which third-party application (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini, email, messaging apps) receives this data.

Important: Once you share your task details with a third-party AI service or application, that data becomes subject to the terms and privacy policy of that third-party provider.

No Analytics or Advertising Networks: Kato contains no third-party advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, or commercial data brokers.

07Data retention, backup, and deletion

  • Retention: Because all data resides in your device’s local database and sandboxed storage, your data remains on your device until you delete individual tasks, clear app data, or uninstall the App.
  • Deletion: You can delete any task or clear your task history at any time directly within the App.
  • App Uninstallation: Uninstalling Kato will permanently delete the local database and cached task attachments from your device.
  • Backups: If you use operating system backup solutions (e.g., Google Drive Backup or Apple iCloud Backup), your local application data may be included in your encrypted personal device backups according to your OS backup settings.

08Children’s privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K Compliance)

Kato does not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). Because Kato functions offline and does not collect personal identity information, no child’s personal data is transmitted to or stored on external servers. If a parent or guardian believes their child has shared personal data via external sharing tools, please contact us.

09International data protection rights (GDPR & CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, Switzerland, or California (USA):

  • Right of Access / Portability: You hold direct control of all your data on your physical device. You can view, export, or share your data at any time.
  • Right to Erasure: You can delete all your data instantly by clearing the app data or uninstalling the application.
  • No Sale / Sharing of Personal Information: We do not sell, share, or monetize personal information as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) or GDPR.

10Changes to this privacy policy

We may update our Privacy Policy periodically to reflect new features (such as future optional cloud backup functionality) or legal requirements. When changes are made, the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document will be revised. We recommend reviewing this policy periodically.
